BGS 2021

BGS 2021: Let’s define the future for BGS!

In 2021, BGS will be 30 years old. Since 1991, what started as a small structure organising volleyball trainings has become an association with more than 720 members, offering 16 sport and leisure activities. In order to make sure that the association can go on developing itself in the best conditions, the General Assembly adopted in April 2014 the proposal from the Board to spend one year thinking about the future of BGS. The Working Group ‘BGS 2021’ started its activity shortly after. It will work until summer 2015, interacting with all BGS members, in order to produce a comprehensive report on what BGS is today, define a vision for BGS in 2021 and convert this vision into orientations and objectives for the coming years.

  • Defining the vision

The BGS 2021 project is organised in three parts that will be developed until the general assembly in April 2015.

The first task of the working group entitled « Broadening the horizon » will be developed until December 2014. The aim of the group was to produce a comprehensive report on the actual situation of BGS. One step consisted in a survey that provided the working group with an internal and external point of view on BGS. Another task aims at analysing the way the BGS is organised and run in comparison with other similar associations in Belgium and in Europe. All this work lead to the drafting of a report that was presented and discussed with all the members during a meeting on the 13th December 2014. This report is the starting point for the following step.

The second task of the working group will be to coordinate the collective discussion in order to define a vision for BGS in 2021. A brainstorming weekend will be organised in January 2015 in order to define key priorities and overarching objectives for this vision. The working group will then have the task to develop the vision in details. This vision 2021 will be presented during the general assembly on Saturday April 18th 2015.

Once the vision defined, the last task of the working group will be to adapt the way BGS is organised in order for it to be able to reach the defined objectives. This task will imply to analyse the articles of association and the internal rules to identify possible needed modifications. The proposals for modifications will be discussed with the member and submitted to the General Assembly for a vote in Summer 2015.

The survey 'The BGS and I' conducted in the summer of 2014 brought together a large number of data on the BGS and the perception that different audiences had. These data were analyzed by the working group. The findings were presented to members on 13 December 2014. You can download below the report.
