Straffe Ketten R.F.C.

Rugby is in many ways the ultimate team sport. It values courage, friendship, solidarity, fighting and team spirit. Everyone is welcome, regardless of size and shape.

BGS now hosts the Straffe Ketten R.F.C., the first gay rugby team in Belgium. We want to give everybody the opportunity to discover this great sport in a fun, social and inclusive environment. The goal is twofold: bring rugby to a new audience, and help fight prejudice, on our modest scale.

During the 2010-2011 season, non-competition matches will be organised against Belgian clubs playing in the regular, amateur championship, as well as against other gay rugby teams all over Europe.

Never played rugby? Don't worry, that's what our coaches are for. They'll teach us the basics of the game and help the team evolve as a whole.

Like most other sports, playing rugby requires specific equipment: rugby shoes, shorts & jersey, as well as a mouthguard -- not to be overlooked, as rugby will give you its fair share of shocks. But for your first practice (free of charge for newcomers), all you'll need is a pair of shorts, some sport shoes and an old t-shirt.
