Swim for Life, is our annual swim-a-thon to the benefit of AIDS prevention and support for AIDS patients.

The funds raised during the event are shared between several charities active in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In 2004, the 3 supported charities were:

1. AIDS Solidarity Fund

This fund helps aids-stricken persons (adults and families) with individual, financial and material support, urgent or not, and absorbs part or all of the daily-living costs (medical costs, paramedical costs, pharmaceuticals, lodging) insofar as such costs cannot be paid by the recipient and are not otherwise covered or reimbursed. An analysis of the list of beneficiaries shows how it is the most vulnerable who apply, as well as the desperation of certain beneficiaries who are at wit's end of a complex exclusion process.

The money raised all goes to the beneficiaries of the fund, as the costs associated with the application analysis are borne by the professionals involved (physicians and social workers) who also provide their expertise benevolently to the monthly meetings of the committee that studies the applications.

2. CAW Mozaïk Adzon
For the translation into Bulgarian, Turkish and Arab of an AIDS and STD prevention brochure prepared in cooperation with the Schorer-Stichting and Sensoa for young male prostitutes. This specific public-with multiple vulnerabilities related to prostitution, migration, homosexuality and secrecy - cannot otherwise benefit from current preventive tools. This brochure will be used by all members of the Vlaams-Nederlands Netwerk Jongensprostitutie ( Flanders and the Netherlands ).

3. Zorgwonen
For material help to allow 40 AIDS afflicted needy children and young adults to experience something out of the ordinary. The objective is to offer them the possibility of participating in sports or cultural activities during their vacations or on Wednesday afternoons. Moreover the activities will lighten the load for parents who must deal with many difficult and complex matters. Applications are managed directly by Zorgwonen.
