Queer Moves

Want to become the star of the night and put the dancefloor on fire? Do you enjoy dancing and would you like to explore how to move your body in an elegant and sensual way? Then this new BGS activity Queer Moves is exactly what you need!

We are proposing a series of workshops in which we introduce dance techniques focused on sensuality, queerness and body positivity. These courses are organised with the purpose of being able to be yourself, beyond gender and stereotypes about gender. We take inspiration from different types of dance, like hip-hop, voguing or even classical dance steps.

This series of classes is open for all genders, ages and body types. Don't worry if you have never danced before, we just need your motivation! The classes of Queer Moves will be all about having fun together while getting that energy out and finding the movements to express ourselves.

We danced in the Brussels Pride parade on 20 May 2023, and we hope to be able to participate again next year.

Our teacher, choreographer and performer Mikael (they/them) will guide us into the world of queer dance. As a teacher, they have been active for several years in dancing schools in Antwerp and Ghent amongst others. Apart from that, they perform as a dancer or in drag, mostly on heels but they master several dancing styles. Some examples of choreography performed by Mikael are available via this link.

Please note: this activity has become quite popular, so we have put in place a waiting list. Throughout the year, places will open up. Please send an email to moves@bgs.org to be added to the waiting list.
