Artistic swimming

Artistic swimming is coming to BGS!

Whether you’re looking to try a new sport, ease back into exercise, or take on an artistic and athletic challenge, artistic swimming (formerly known as synchronised swimming) is the sport for you!

Training sessions consist of a land-based component (mobility, flexibility, motor control, strength training, cardio, etc.), a warm-up involving swimming laps, followed by laps incorporating movements specific to artistic swimming. Afterwards, technical and choreographic work alternate depending on the stage of the season.

Taking up artistic swimming requires basic swimming skills and the ability to put your head under water without fear, but it is a sport accessible to everyone. It is a gentle, low-impact sport with a low risk of injury. To get started, you’ll need to be able to swim at least one length (25m) of breaststroke, front crawl and backstroke.

Training sessions are open to everyone, regardless of gender, age, body type or fitness level. There are numerous competitions for adults in Belgium and abroad, providing an opportunity to showcase the results of training in front of an audience. Performances can also be staged at other sporting events such as swimming or water polo competitions.
